Frequently Asked Questions

You’re creating screen-prints?

Yup. Just like a band might sell gig posters or Mondo sells revival one-sheets. But instead of featuring a tour date or a famous movie, we’re featuring solutions to climate change.

But not only screen-prints, we are currently raising funds to comission all kinds of climate art with Earth’s mightiest pop artists. Murals, billboard take overs, street art installations, protest art, educational graphics for social…you name it we wanna make it!

Lots of folks first hear about us from our founder’s appearance on Ologies with Alie Ward. Check that out here for lots more info.

And they’re available by donation?

Yes. For a minimum donation of $75, you’ll receive your choice of one of our limited-edition prints as a gift while supplies last. Get them here.

The prints benefit another climate charity?

Yes. Most of our prints honor a climate non-profit by not only fundraising for them, but hopefully making them feel great about their work. All the money we raise from print donations after we pay our artists and our printers is donated to these charity partners. If we reach our goal of giving out our entire print runs, about 50% of your donation for each print. However, we depend on donations beyond that for our operating expenses so we can produce new prints and work with new illustrators.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes (if you’re in the U.S.). All of your donation minus the $25 fair market value of each print is tax-deductible. This will be spelled out on your receipt.

What if I don’t want a print but want to help you make new work?

That’d be great! If you’d like to donate without receiving a print, you’ll see this option in the donation check-out process.

So you pay the illustrators who work on the projects?

Absolutely. One of our goals is to create paid work for artists and printers we admire who don’t typically have opportunities to work in climate activism. And for them to be influenced by climate solutions in all their work going forward.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes. However, since we are based in the U.S., please add at least $25 extra to your donation if you live outside the U.S.

When will my prints arrive?

It can take us 6 - 8 weeks to ship out a print (TBH it is usually faster than that). If you need shipping outside the U.S., expect at least a month after that, perhaps much longer, for the print to arrive. Customs lags, especially to Asia and Australia, have been crazy lately. We are a tiny, all-volunteer organization - please be patient. If you need the print ASAP as a gift, please let us know in the notes during checkout.

Why are the prints limited-edition?

We want these prints to be collectible - just like the limited-edition gig posters and revival one-sheets that inspired them. After the initial run, no additional copies will be printed. However, if there is a lot of interest in one of the prints, we may run a limited variant edition at a later date.

Can I post images of the prints on Instagram etc?

Yes please! Gift prints include a display license exclusively for the individually numbered print you receive. Functional Magic retains all copyrights in the Work but grants print recipients a non-exclusive, royalty-free license for any non-featured and incidental use on websites, social media, brochures, print, and email. This license does not extend to use in connection with the sale of any goods or services. In short, you are welcome to post photographs in which your individually numbered prints appear on social media, websites, and all other non-commerical media etc.

Are you associated with Project Drawdown?

Nope, but we’re directly inspired by that project’s pragmatism and positivity. Project Drawdown is the amazing climate change mitigation project initiated by Paul Hawken and climate activist Amanda Joy Ravenhill. They’ve measured and modeled the "most substantive solutions to global warming". Check it out!

Who are you exactly?

We are a Los Angeles based association of scientists, marketing execs, and television producers who want to create climate activist art that inspires regular folks to create a spectacular future. We were founded in 2019 by C. Andrew Hall, a longtime Phish fan who dreamed of mashing up his love for comic books, gig posters and Mondo prints with environmental advocacy.
